		<description>I was asked by e-mail about the functions performed by DVDxDV the license for which is the subject of our class on April 22. This software is used for transcoding video from MPEG2 (the CODEC used by DVDs) to other video formats, including .mov (the CODEC used by QuickTime). DVDxDV will NOT transcode from an encrypted DVD. It is NOT &quot;stripping&quot; software. The output of DVDxDV is an editable format video. (MPEG2 as used by DVDs is not directly editable.

I don&#039;t think that the functions performed by DVDxDV have an impact on an analysis of the nature of the rights which are retained by the software author and the rights acquired by the licensee of DVDxDV, but you may have a different view which deserves exploration in our discussion of this license.</description>
