In 1999, Professor Pamela Samuelson developed a PowerPoint presentation intended to provide a background in Copyright Law for persons interested in the application of Copyright Law to emerging technology, including software. While there have been changes, both domestic and international, since she prepared this slideshow, it remains an excellent tool for acquiring an understanding of the basic structure of Copyright Law and issues underlying decisions to extend or not extend copyright protection.
